A well-balanced blend of excellent nursing skills and a strong commercial healthcare mindset are among the wide-ranging strengths that Pple Healthcare’s newly appointed GM, Candice Walkow brings to the company.
Candice’s interest in nursing started when she was a young woman and discovered her innate capacity to take care of people.
She obtained her Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery at SG Lourens Nursing College, Pretoria. Since then she has gained extensive experience across various medical disciplines, including trauma, general, community, midwifery, psychiatric, and dialysis.
At the same time, her people and business management skills were being honed as her career path saw her moving from patient care into management positions at healthcare provider companies. She says, “Having spent 20 years in the medical field with healthcare providers, and through the natural progression in my career, I developed strong business management acumen and was able to bring both my medical expertise and business management skills to the table.”
She adds, “Through my experience in the medical profession with healthcare providers, I’m familiar with the industry’s needs and I believe that the Pple Group is the perfect vehicle to provide the best staff. I am excited to see what we can achieve in providing fit-for-purpose solutions to healthcare providers.”
Apart from general management responsibilities, Candice’s new role includes assisting in creating and implementing strategic plans, ensuring overall growth and sustainability, creating and maintaining sound relationships with all stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
Candice’s advice for young people considering a career in healthcare, is, “Always remember ‘why’ you chose a career in healthcare, and always challenge yourself to stay up-to-date with medical trends.”
